Dour Festival is a four-day music festival that takes place by the Walloon village Dour, close to Mons. Dour named themselves ‘European Alternative Music Event’, ever since the first edition in 1989. This year, they present us with a beautiful selection of all kinds of genres and once again, Dour is the place to discover new music. So I picked out five artists and bands I’d love to see next weekend.

Darkside // 17/07, 22:00-23:00
Nicolas Jaar + Dave Harrington = Darkside, also known as the inventors of the space-blues. Every time they give a concert, they leave the place sold out and every person mesmerized. Their remix of the entire Daft Punk-album was listened to around the world by tons of people and while touring, they manage to create new stuff. Debut album Phychic was hailed by Pitchfork and Spin, to name a few.

Little Dragon // 18/07, 21:30-22:30
Electronic music straight from Sweden: Little Dragon. The members met in Gothenburg and now, they’ve recorded three albums and collaborated with SBTRKT, which was highly appreciated by many. They released a new album in May and named it Nabuma Rubberband. To celebrate, we’ll be able to dance to their music – for the third time – at Dour.

BadBadNotGood // 19/07, 20:30-21:30
BadBadNotGood visited our country a while ago, at Les Nuits, and I was surprised how popular they are. This Canadian band presents us modern jazz, with a little bit of hiphop and downtemp on the side. When they’re live, they like to improvise and bring reinterpretations of songs by James Blake, Kanye West and Flying Lotus. In 2013, they were already one of the best artists on the festival and now they’re back to impress us once again.

Mogwai // 19/07, 00:30-01:30
This band was born in 1995 and raised in Glasgow and celebrated their birth with the album Young Team, which was a big success. They shed a new light on the post-rock genre and after 15 years they are absolutely linked to this genre. Next weekend, they are going to present us their seventh album Rave Tapes.

Blonde Redhead // 20/07, 22:00-23:00
They’ve been walking on the rocky roads of New York for over twenty years with an urge to experiment with rock music. They’ve been compared to Sonic Youth, especially since their latest record, where they sound significantly more poppy and electronic. Blonde Redhead visited Dour already in 2001, but this weekend you can see the new and improved version.

Have fun at Dour!

Love,
Leila
